The Scoping Study findings of the situation of public transport in Port Moresby undertaken in 2014 established that a very high proportion of women feel unsafe while using public transport; 90% of women and girls interviewed experienced some form of sexual harassment or violence while accessing public motor vehicles or while in the bus. These findings motivated specific projects to improve safety for women on public transport as well as in other public spaces.
